two kilometer project

This 2 kilometer long mixed-use project - retail, theater, educational, museum/exhibition, office, hotel, residential - ties together and activates an otherwise solemn downtown urban district.

Ioana Urma worked on this project at The Jerde Partnership, in the competition and concept design phases, as part of the core design team with Alex Lin & Kenneth Ho, and later Nalin Ramkumar, under the guide of head designer David Rogers. The following designers also participated: Martin Hsieh, Sami Khoury, Napoleon Merana, Ana Shin, Drew Shula, & Tarah Young.

This project rolled at super-high speed & involved a huge team of consultants. The most difficult aspect was programming the long space so as to bring people in & coordinating with the existing context to which we were “glueing”. Ioana further/ particularly developed the theater programmatic designs and ideas for sustainability.

The images here belong to Jerde. Ioana Urma manually produced the ones that aren’t credited to someone else, though she participated as designer of the whole package. The 3D modeling team consists of Mindy Lee, Ian Camarillo, Francis Francisco, Dominik Martinez, Alex Lin & Kenneth Ho.
