These natural science illustrations, created for the educational “Build a Bird” iPhone & Android apps, show seven bird species engaged in a variety of life-sustaining activities: breeding and nesting; searching for food and feeding; flying in various positions such as gliding, landing, taking-off, diving, soaring; and other general pastime activies such as roosting, fighting, and observing other birds.
A lot of research was conducted so as to understand what is special about each bird species, and decide which features/position/behavior to include, so that each species is accurately represented and differences between them highlighted.
The client was the K-12 science and engineering educational non-profit Iridescent in collaboration with the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. The app developer was I-Site.
Large prints of these illustrations were displayed at Galeria Tonantzin, in San Juan Bautista, California, as part of the June - July 2011 “Women Illustrating Nature” exhibit, and are still available for purchase.
